Little Beast Brewing Embrace the Darkness Robust Porter Portland, Oregon – Go Drink This Beer!
On Tuesday Oct 5, 2021, I visited the Little Beast Brewing Clackamas, Oregon Tasting Room to gather content for a Craft Beer Treasure article – The Best Reason to Visit the Little Beast Brewing Clackamas, Oregon Tasting Room!
The day before they had canned a new Little Beast beer – Embrace the Darkness Robust Porter. Know this – I LOVE dark beers. We are just now at the front edge of the season of my favorite kind of beers. I saw this new Little Beast Porter and I knew that I needed to purchase a 4-pack and take it home with me.
I was also lucky enough to get a pour of this beer while I was at the tasting room. It did not disappoint.
If you live in the Portland, Oregon area and you decide that you want to enjoy this beer – you need to act fast.
For now, this a “one-off” and there are no current plans to brew it again. Turnagain Vines Distributors (known as Bliss Wine Co on Instagram,) in Alaska requested that Little Beast brew a dark beer that they could sell up in Alaska. As I understand it – it was Turnagain Vines Distributors that came up with that awesome name.
Most of this beer is being shipped North. A few cases are being shipped to Hatos Bar located in Nakameguro – a residential district of Meguro, Tokyo.
After all of that – 5 cases will be left for the Portland, Oregon area. I am told that by Saturday morning Oct 9, 2021, you will be able to purchase this beer at both the Little Beast Beer Garden in Portland, Oregon, and at the Little Beast Brewing Clackamas, Oregon Tasting Room.
Tasting Notes
The brewery tasting notes state that this beer “is based on a traditional porter before chocolate malt existed. This robust style of porter has pronounced roasted malted characteristics and a firm bitterness” and that the taste “is dry with a robust malt character.”
The grain bill is English pale malt, brown malt, and black malt. Magnum was the bittering hop, the kettle hop was saaz, and the featured microflora was Saccharomyces.
Beer Deserves a Place at the Table
As many craft beer fans already know – when it comes to food pairings the average person would pair wine with food long before they would think to pair their favorite dish with Craft Beer. This a sad situation that I hope changes over time. Yes – wine & food pairings are awesome. That being said, Craft Beer & food pairings are also awesome!
What to Pair Embrace the Darkness Robust Porter With
As I am sure that many of you already know porters go great with hearty stews, BBQ, chili, gruyere cheese, mellow blue cheeses, and desserts that you would have a cup of black coffee with.
Last night I opened one of my 4 cans of Embrace the Darkness and I enjoyed it with an episode of the Blacklist (season 7). I wanted to pair this wonderful very roasty porter with a rich beef stew or a dark chocolate cake. You can bet your bippy that I will be enjoying one of my remaining 3 cans with one of those two dishes.
If you like dark beer – Go Drink This Beer!
Cheers,
